The Flying Scotsman

less than 1 minute read

On Easter Saturday we visited some friends of friends who live by the Bluebell Railway. We had a barbecue while watching the Flying Scotsman steam past several times.

The Flying Scotsman is a special engine: it was the first engine in the UK to (officially) travel at 100 miles per hour. It did this in 1934, more recently than I was expecting.

It was polished up to the nines in dark green British Railways livery. Perhaps I expected the lighter green of the LNER livery made famous by the Hornby model. Neverthreless, it looked splendid in British Racing Green.
